While in Hampton, we suggest that you spend some time exploring the area. You will be surprised at what the area has to offer. There are several city parks, a wonderful 20 mile bike path that you can ride through farmland and trees on the old railroad easement. Near Hampton are park lands and wooded wildlife conservation areas along meandering rivers where you can get in touch with nature. About thirty minutes north of Hampton is Mason City, the home of Merrideth Wilson, and his inspiration for the famous Broadway play and movie, "The Music Man". For those business men and women with companies who are visiting, you may want to consider Hampton as a good place for your manufacturing or other business because of the low real estate prices and ample workforce. Hampton Historical District
Much of historical downtown Hampton is still intact. The town has a city park with a band stand shell across the street from the beautiful historic courthouse. Surrounding the courthouse are several specialty shops in the square. It is a charming example of a Victorian era Midwestern town. If you have ever been to Disneyland or Disney World, you will see "Main Street USA". Walt Disney got the idea for this from the Midwest towns that he was familiar with as a child. In Hampton, you can see a real "Main Street USA". There are several specialty shops and restaurants in the historical district that you will not want to miss. All within a block of the Hampton Historical jail is the Courthouse, Civil War Memorial Hall, the historic (and haunted) Windsor Theater, the old United Methodist Church, historic Main Street and other historical buildings. A walk down some of the old residential streets will reward you with rich examples of several architectural styles that were popular in bygone years.
